PTSD Treatment and Trauma Therapy in South Texas

South Texas Mental Health Associates provides expert treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and trauma-related conditions at all three of our clinic locations in San Antonio, Corpus Christi, and Edinburg. Our board-certified psychiatrists and licensed therapists use evidence-based approaches to help you process traumatic experiences, reduce distressing symptoms, and rebuild a sense of safety and control in your life.

PTSD can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event such as military combat, sexual assault, a serious accident, natural disaster, childhood abuse, or the sudden death of a loved one. With the right treatment, the majority of patients experience significant and lasting improvement.

  • Intrusive memories or flashbacks
  • Nightmares about the trauma
  • Severe anxiety or panic
  • Hypervigilance or being easily startled
  • Emotional numbness or detachment
  • Avoiding trauma-related triggers
  • Difficulty sleeping or concentrating
  • Irritability or angry outbursts

Our Approach to PTSD Treatment

Effective PTSD treatment requires a personalized approach. Our clinical team evaluates each patient's trauma history, current symptoms, and treatment goals to develop an individualized care plan. Treatment may include one or more of the following evidence-based approaches:

EMDR Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Helps the brain reprocess traumatic memories through bilateral stimulation, reducing emotional intensity without requiring detailed verbal recounting of the trauma.
CPT Cognitive Processing Therapy Helps patients examine and reframe unhelpful beliefs that developed as a result of trauma. Typically 12 structured sessions with strong research support for PTSD.
CBT Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Addresses negative thought patterns and teaches practical coping strategies for managing PTSD symptoms in daily life and relationships.
Medication Psychiatric Medication Management SSRIs, SNRIs, and other FDA-approved medications can reduce the intensity of PTSD symptoms and support the psychotherapy process.

Our therapists may combine approaches based on your individual needs. Learn more about our EMDR therapy program or our individual psychotherapy services.
