Eric D. Seilhamer Jr., DNP
PMHNP-BC · South Texas Mental Health AssociatesEric Seilhamer is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner serving children, adolescents, and families across South Texas. He earned his Doctor of Nursing Practice from Texas Christian University and brings experience from outpatient psychiatry, intensive outpatient programs, inpatient behavioral health, and the Department of Defense. His focus is straightforward: meet each young patient and their family where they are, and build a plan that works.
Nurse Practitioner. Child and Family Advocate.
Eric D. Seilhamer Jr. joined South Texas Mental Health Associates with a clinical background that spans outpatient psychiatry, intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization programs, inpatient behavioral health, and service as a civilian Registered Nurse with the Department of Defense. That range of experience across acute and long-term settings shapes how he approaches every patient: with clinical precision and an understanding that mental health challenges rarely exist in isolation.
Eric completed his Doctor of Nursing Practice at Texas Christian University and is board-certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. His specialty is child and adolescent psychiatry for patients ages 6 through 18, where he provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and supportive psychotherapy. He builds individualized care plans that account for each young patient's emotional, social, cultural, and developmental context, working alongside families as partners in the process.
Beyond direct clinical care, Eric actively supports school accommodations, including 504 plan documentation and IEP recommendations, when those tools can help a child succeed. He also has experience treating co-occurring substance use disorders, a population that often falls through the cracks in traditional outpatient settings.
Eric sees patients at STMHA locations across South Texas, including Corpus Christi, San Antonio, and Edinburg. Telepsychiatry is also available, extending access to quality child and adolescent mental health care for families throughout Texas.

Psychiatric Care Built Around the Young Patients and Families He Serves
Eric Seilhamer brings a holistic, collaborative approach to child and adolescent psychiatry, drawing on broad clinical experience and a genuine commitment to the families in his care.
Child and Adolescent Specialty
Eric’s clinical work is centered on young patients ages 6 through 18. He understands that children and teens are not simply small adults. Developmental stage, family dynamics, and school environment all inform how he evaluates and treats each patient.
Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluations
Effective treatment starts with an accurate diagnosis. Eric conducts thorough psychiatric evaluations that look at the full picture: clinical history, developmental background, school performance, family context, and the patient’s own account of what they’re experiencing.
Integrated Treatment Planning
Eric combines pharmacologic and therapeutic strategies into individualized care plans rather than defaulting to medication alone. He works collaboratively with STMHA’s licensed therapists to ensure each patient receives coordinated, whole-person care.
Department of Defense Experience
Eric served as a civilian Registered Nurse with the Department of Defense, providing acute psychiatric nursing care for active-duty military members. That high-acuity background gives him a clinical grounding that translates directly to complex cases in outpatient practice.
School Support: 504 Plans and IEPs
Eric understands that a child’s mental health affects every part of their life, including the classroom. He actively supports school accommodation documentation, including 504 plans and IEP recommendations, so patients can access the support they need to succeed academically.
Telepsychiatry for Families Statewide
Access to child psychiatry is limited across South Texas. Eric provides telepsychiatry appointments through STMHA’s secure, HIPAA-compliant platform, so families anywhere in Texas can receive high-quality care without traveling to a clinic.
Conditions Eric Seilhamer Treats at STMHA
